Local health clinics get federal grants

Several local health centers will expand their facilities and services after receiving more than $10 million in federal grants created by health reform.
Mary Wakefield, administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, visited St. Louis Thursday to speak about the grants and see how they will be spent.

Wakefield presented a check for $2.1 million at the Grace Hill Water Tower Health Center. The grant proposal from Grace Hill Neighborhood Health Centers includes adding a radiology and mammography lab, four exam rooms, new restrooms and office space at the Soulard/Benton center. The Murphy O'Fallon clinic on Biddle Street plans to add 1,500 square feet for radiology, dental and optometry services.

Crider Health Center of Wentzville received $5.1 million for its proposal to build a 15,000-square-foot clinic in Warrenton. The building will include space for conferences and training as well as 10 exam rooms, a lab and mental health facilities.
